Default 2009 back up lights

We just bought a 2009 Lexus RX350. Love it. So far the only complaint we have is the dim back up lights. We live in a very rural area, with no street lights, and seeing to back up is now a challenge. Any suggestions? Hopefully my problems will never be any more serious than this.

Replace with LED's. There are a good deal of thread here on DIY's on reaplcing them. I can search but hopefully some of the LED gurus can chime in.

And welcome!

Find some CREE LED bulbs for the back up lights. Huge difference. I got mine from AutoDesign here on the forum but VLeds has them as well.

I had crees in my reverse, they were way too hot so i replaced them with leds. Didn't want to run into problems others on the forum had with melted housings.

I went with V-LEDS in the 450h. They're pretty bright when reversing. I also changed out the interior lights with their bulbs. Very happy with them.

+1. I want to be sure that 1. Actual visibility is improved, and 2. It does not trigger a 'bulb out' signal or cause any damage to the vehicle's circuitry. The 2009 RX is definitely deficient in reverse visibility for the driver!

How often were you driving in reverse that the lamps stayed on long enough to get hot enough to melt the housing?

The longest I'm in reverse is backing out of the garage and down the driveway, about 15-30 seconds for me.

I was going to ask the same thing. LOL. I have a backup camera and the Cree bulbs make it like daytime now. The stock ones were brutal.

I'm retrofiting HID bulbs into the reverse light and add a toggle switch so I can have it on by demand
on freeway if someone tailgates me. My friend have it on his Camry Hybrid and it's brightest thing you've ever seen

You should check whether your set-up is legal. I don't believe it is.

HID Spotties in the back? Surely not.

While tempting it is to blind other drivers, i personally would let the guy through. Guys who tailgate aren't right in the head in the first place, no point escalating it to a road rage situation.
