The $870 quote is from a Toyota shop in DE. Sounds like the local DE Lexus dealer was charging closer to $2K.
As a comparison, a local Toyota dealership in my area was running a service special for a timing belt change on a 2004 V6 Highlander, same 3.3L engine, before the holidays for under $300 plus tax and shop fees. That is still perhaps twice what was quoted for the RX330 ($620) which is substantially the same engine.
At the moment the only timing belt special they have listed is for a 4 cylinder Toyota Corolla for $249. Not saying the change on the RX should be this low, just as a comparison and since much of the cost involved is labor.
At the rate I am driving my RX330 of late it may be 10 years old before it would be time to replace the belt. Will not push it beyond that. Still, if a local shop will do the work at what I was seeing for pricing on the Highlander I will be jumping on it before the deal goes away.

Hi all sorry to bring up a older thread but I am looking at the same issues here in NH.
I have a 04 330 (we have owned since new) and have pretty much avoided having to pay the one Lexus dealer in the State (no competition-high prices) for service and done the oil changes myself (Mobil 1 and bought a case of TM filters).for brakes I have had a Toyota dealer do them once,then an large non dealer shop do them. At 95K its due for a timing belt/water pump,not sure I trust the non dealer shop to do it, and the Toyota dealer was hesitant to do the brakes so I suspect timing belt might be a stretch.
Any recommendations for Lexus service here in NH ?

Considering that you would like to drive this car for a long time, I would recommend the dealer for the timing belt if there are no comparable shops in your area. If you ask around, you will probably save no more than $150 on labor for a well-trained and well-tooled mechanic. My estimate is a $50/hr difference for three hours.
In the part of Canada where I live, none of the Toyota dealers will touch a lexus. The labor rate at my dealer is about $130/hr and reputable independent shops are about $90-95/hr.
As for parts, a garage may save you maybe tops $100 if part is from OEM. If you want a Lexus part, the garage will buy it from the local dealer so no savings for you there.
Then there's the warranty, if dealer does it all, part and labor is warranted for one year and 90 days, respectively, and usually good for US and Canada (in case you go for a long drive north of 49th).
Save on brakes, oil changes, etc. by going to Costco or others, but for the timing belt, I'd say go to the dealer.
Lastly, if you go where you bought your car, you normally get a Lexus loaner and free interior and exterior cleaning. That's at least worth $80. Mind you, they won't lend you the IS-F, SC, or LS but everything else should be available.

May I ask where in Ontario you live. If its the GTA, there are plenty of Toyota dealers will service Lexus. The biggest thing is to find a Toyota dealer that is not a sister dealership to Lexus. Also as long as I have brought OEM parts to the dealership I have never had a problem

future repairs
I am a first timer at owning a Lexus. I have a 2007 rx350 with 85,000 miles on it. I only know that it had 1 other owner, typically a lease vehicle. The water pump, oil cooler line and the #5 ignition coil have gone out on me. The ignition coil just yesterday. What more should i be ready for, im starting to get a bad taste in my mouth with this vehicle.

Well I am pleased to have found a T/M dealer who will do it for just under 600 (with the water pump) .I will check with the Lexus dealer but I recall them quoting something over 1300.

My Lexus dealer quoted me $641.00 for the Timing belt. Not sure if that includes the water pump though.

I didn't ask but the parts-belt water pump are the same no ? (T/M vs Lexus).

I have just went over 90K on my RX400h too, talked to my local independent mechanic, it's an average of 4-5 hrs of labor to do belt, water bump, belt idler + brake fluid .
I saw this kit from Sewell after forum discount, it's just a few bucks less than $300

So assuming 4.5hrs of labor @ $90 + $296 + no cost for brake fluid cos I have OEM brake fluid at home already so about $701 out the door. I have yet to call local Toyota dealer to check the cost to compare
