So, sure, why not keep it around for another 5 years.

(Although, 15K miles/year is kind of a lot. But if you're only driving 7K or 8K miles a year, that's fine for an old car.)
She can keep it to around 15K because we drive my car on road trips. We have one kid and two grandsons 10 hours east and another kid 10 hours west. I've put 30k on my Audi in the last year. I know our RX can rack up the miles with less potential problems than the A6, but the A6 is so much more fun that it's worth it.

At least you don't get to replace a clutch on a '04 S4 as I did years ago.....LOL

Not an "S", but I feel your pain...

Previous owner bragged he'd just had a new clutch installed when I bought it. Unfortunately, whoever replaced it bought a Duralast from AutoZone. It duralasted about 20K miles...

I dreaded doing it so much I drove for a couple months after I got all the parts without using the clutch, except to take of in 1st.

To this day, that is the worst thing I've ever had to do to a car. Which is really saying something because I've replaced the rear head gasket in a POS GM minivan.

Got the water out in three hours flat. Not as bad a job as I was expecting. I'd have it back together all ready if Amazon would have delivered the new one when they were supposed to.

Your wife possibly prefers the smaller gen 2 vs the gen 3.....For some reason manufactures keep making the the same models w/ a bigger footprint thru the generations......Have a look at the NX to a gen 2 rx, similar footprint, but a tighter interior.

True. Feels much smaller than the actual difference in footprint. Seats are comfier in the gen 2.

I got it all put back together last night and drove it to work this morning.

If only the water pump in my Audi could go 250K without needing replaced.

I replace the tensioner pulley and both idlers. The old tensioner pulley felt pretty crunchy when you spin it. The two idlers felt like the brand new ones. And the 250K mile serpentine belt was still in great shape. No cracks or dry rot. And when comparing the length to the new one, no stretch either.

I'd whether ppl either replace/repair vehicles correctly or not at all.....Quite a few times I've had tto redo others mess ups/slammer it togethers.....As leave it for the next guy, hence your duralast clutch....I've seen for quite along while now that some of the newer vehicles aren't as good as the earlier versions.....Off track, have a look at quite a few homes slammed together vs homes from the '50's, ;60's & '70's.......

Well, she's staying in the family. My dad came over the other day and asked how much I wanted for it. He runs all over the midwest during the summer going to antique tractor shows. He doesn't get around on foot very well so he takes his JD Gator. It's a small one, like golf cart sized, pulled on a small utility trailer. It's kinda overkill to pull it around with his 3/4 ton truck. Figures the old RX350 will do better than the 8-10MPG he's getting now.
