Default Emergency Creditcard Key Chip

I have the original emergency key that came with my RX and would would like to transfer the chip to a new card since the one I have is looking pretty beat up. I have a new blank card without a chip. Is it possible to remove the chip from my old card and put it in the new one? if so, is there anything I need to know about removing the chip?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm lost friend....are you trying to get a new key and case for your car, or a new credit card??? What year is your car?

Sorry for any confusion....

I'm referring to the credit card style "emergency" key that originally came with the car. (see picture)

I would like to remove the chip from the old card and put it in a new card but I'm not sure if that can be done or how to do it. (I got the chip cover off but it looks like the chip may be glued to the card.)

Thanks!

Using the above Owner's Manual as an example, the OP is asking about the flat key found on page 13.

Those are really not meant to be taken apart, though I would guess that with an x-acto knife and some patience you could surgically remove the internals from your old card by cutting open one end and sliding out the needed part. The problem would be sealing the end back up on the new card once you slid the internals into place.

Perhaps you would be better off leaving it the way it is and with the Owner's Manual in the glove box. Have never had a need to ever use the one for my 2004. Plenty of other keys to be had. Used to leave one master key at the office in my desk.

IMO you never want to leave these in the glove box. why?

1. thieves know to look there for these. this happened to a friend of mine.
2. what good is a wallet emergency key if it's locked in the car in the glove box?
