Default 2004 RX- Air Suspension Question! Air to regular conversion

Well, I've done a ton of searches online, and have yet to find a definate answer. So, I've come here looking for help.

I'm looking at purchasing a 88,000 mile 2004 RX 330, that is currently equipped with the Air ride leveling suspension. My friend at the Lexus dealership says, that this is a somewhat rare option on the Rx330's.

The Rx Im looking at rides and drives excellent, and is perfect in every way....However upon inspection by the service department, 3 of the 4 Air bag struts are bad. The RX sits fine, rides fine and doesnt sag in any way. I talked to the technician, and he says that they could be fine for another 2 or 3 years, or I could walk out tomoroow and they woudl be completely deflated. So, I was hoping ot be proactive, in searching for a cost effective replacement.

I was hoping that there was a succesful way to convert the air ride suspension over to a traditional Strut system. Any real World experiences? I am just not interested in spending $4,500+ to repair the OEM level ride system. (I know I would need to disable the warnign lights on the dash) But I was really hoping someone has done this swap, and has recommendations, or part #'s.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for the link! I had already read that one, in my earlier search. It definatley gives me hope.

I guess what my question was, is there specific "aftermarket" stuts, that I can buy? I was hoping to avoid, going to a salvage yard or having to be lucky enought to find a set like this poster. Was hoping, to find a direct replaceemnt form KYB or Monroe...etc...

Once again, thanks for the help!

As mentioned in the previous thread(s), you might even be able to sell off what you have working from the air suspension to help pay for the new parts when all is done.

filthyRX, welcome to CL. You can turn the air suspension off. The button is located under the steering wheel. It's part of the performance package that also came with AFS, sequential trans and different 18" wheels. They're some cool features to have. Good luck.
