'04 Stereo oddities. What else will fit?
My '04 stereo acts wierd. I have to press the disc button and the power button at the same time in order to switch to audio from the rear seat DVD, and then FM and power at the same time to get back to radio. The seek/scan and all other functions do not work at all. Can not use the CD player at all (can't even load a CD), and the system generally just sucks. (rant out)
So I'd like to replace it. I don't want to spend crazy money because this is an older vehicle and I really just listen to the radio anyways. On long trips I use my iPod through an FM transmitter. So, the replacement has to be realistically justifiable.
I've seen replacement units on ebay for about $500. This seems totally crazy to me for an 8 year old used stereo, but they got ya by the shorts with limited supply/demand because of the fit.
I do not want an aftermarket unit, but I'd consider a newer Lexus RX model. I like the tape deck delete of the newer ('08?) model, but is it a direct swap part?
I also like the new new version but the face plate is different. Are the wire connections all the same such that I could graft a new version stereo onto an old version (modified) faceplate?
Thanks in advance

Honestly the money you would be spending to get this...you could go with aftermarket...I know you want to stick to factory, but unless your going to trade it in go with aftermarket. Then when your ready to get rid of it then you can put the factory back in. You can pick up a pretty nice double din cheaply

You can pick up an headunit from a junkyard for around $300. Look at www.car-part.com
Or, do what Carver did. Here's a link to his setup: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...a-dnx6960.html
It's pretty sick!
