Default Wheel sensor replacement- help!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, and I'm so glad to find this great forum. I have a 2004 RX330 that just had the VSC and ABS warning lights pop on. The local shop scanned for the problem and says that the right rear wheel speed sensor is throwing the error code. They want $800 for parts and labor. I found the part online for half what they're quoting and will replace it myself, but my questions for you all are: will I need to recalibrate anything after installing the sensor, and what is the best way to reset the system to clear out the codes? I am ordering a repair manual that may help, but it isn't here yet.

I've done some searches on this topic, and I see that there is a procedure with a jumper wire, but some folks suggest simply disconnecting the battery. Any thoughts, advice, or suggestions? Thanks so much in advance!

First i would take the sensor out carefully and cleann the sensor as well as the reluctor ring. As for resetting code yea, unplug battery and turn on headlamp switch to discharge the system and then see if if comes back. Did you look on RockAuto.com for the sensor?

thomas1, thanks so much for the response and the rockauto.com suggestion. I wasn't aware of that site and they do have the best price on the sensor. I will follow your advice and try cleaning up the sensor contact first. Glad to know I don't need a scan tool in order to clear out the codes. I will be picking up the car tomorrow, I'll post up how the repair goes. Thanks again, my wife and I appreciate it!

Forest, I replaced my front sensor. If you can have the code cleared for you, do that friend. If you try to "reset" via battery disconnect, the code is still stored in the history. Something to note: If you have air suspension, when you reset the code, you need to be on level ground so the code can zero point calibration with the height sensors. The sensors are usually held on with a single 10 MM bolt. Just be careful disconnecting the wire from the harness. Use a pick or a small screw driver if needed to help separate the two parts after lifting or pushing down the tab.
