Here's the problem I'm experiencing:

The nav is set to climate mode. Change gears to reverse and backup cam turns on. Change gears back to drive and nav screen goes to maps.

So the problem is that my nav unit no longer remembers which mode it is in after changing gears and defaults back to maps.

Is this a problem I should take to the dealership or a simple ecu reset might work?

That's the way the climate screen seems to be programmed. If you are on climate for a while it will auto switch back to the maps too. I actually prefer this operation as it is less of a distraction while I'm driving.
