I am considering the purchase .of a 2009 Lexus RX 350 that was titled in May 2008. How did they make 2009s in 2008? Any ideas? Thanks!

Just as you can purchase 2014 model year vehicles right now from a number of manufacturers.

Model year and calendar year are two different things. What you're describing is typical.
