I got them here http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/oe-toyota/1636320400
Really this is just another thing to keep an eye on. Every month or so check your water pump and radiator for pink crust. Now you should also spin the fans by hand. If one is tighter than the other or makes a clicking noise, it is time to change them. A single failed fan is most likely not going to leave you broken down on the side of the road.

I changed both of my hybrid motors yesterday. Everything seems a little quieter now. While swapping things out, one the screws that hold the motor to the plastic was frozen and I had to drill it out. While pressing gently on the drill the entire plastic broke away in a 10 mm circle requiring me to use a small washer to keep the new screw head from pulling through. Basically the plastic is starting to get brittle after 10 years of use. Just another reason non hybrids should go with the Amazon deal as that gets you new plastic also.

My motors are running, but I received one from Amazon for $20. Said it is for Hybrid....interesting...Yea the plastic does seem to have a terminal life span on most everything subject to heat.

What are the numbers on the back of your Amazon fan? Normally I would be all over the Amazon deal and do a ton of research to find out the difference. Unfortunately I did not have a lot of time as I am driving the RX from CA to FL Monday.

cooling fan shroud dimensions
I am planning on replacing my 2006 RX400h radiator shroud and fans with a 330 shroud from Amazon. Are the dimensions the same? I have the 2 ECU fan set up and would modify the 330 set up to hook up both fan ECUs if it will fit.

Has anyone been able to find out the cooling fan assembly part number, and where to buy it? Also, can someone share the manual used in this troubleshooting, please? 2006 RX 400h here as well.

Update: removing both cooling fan motors and blowing out a load of black dust solved the problem. Motors started working right away. I've got it on video if anyone is interested.

In a hot climate w/ an '03 RX-300 at around 106F I had no problems with overheating or AC, but thought I would run the aux.engine fans to cool her off when parked. I could hear a fan running when I was near the front of the car and the fan would run when the ignition key was in the second position but when I opened the hood only one fan was running.
Does anyone know if that RX is so sophisticated that the fans have tiered temp. set points so the second only comes on if really hot or perhaps one of mine may be shot?
I wonder why the cooling fan on the Lexus only runs if the ignition key is at the second position, or with the engine started. When I remove the key the fan turns off. I think maybe the fan should run whenever the engine needs cooling, JMO. I had an auto many years ago and the aux. engine fan would run when I walked away from the vehicle with the engine off and key out.

The driver's side cooling fan motor seems to be on its way out. It's making a horrible noise and I confirmed it's the fan by disconnecting the plug and only the normal engine noises remain.
The part # for the motor is 16363-20400
The lowest I've found is 161
https://toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth....tor-1636320400
Has anyone else found it for lower?
thanks

Amazon P/N?
Can anyone post part numbers that I can use to order the fan motors from Amazon? My 2006 RX400H overheated for the first time while idling the other day but the A/C has stop working intermittently for awhile now...

Regarding the fan motors, I've some part numbers and my own personal story regarding my RX400h.
Part numbers can be found on Lexus' WWWsite; https://parts.lexus.com. The numbers I give below come from there (once the vehicle model / year has been selected, look under these categories: ENGINE, then RADIATOR & WATER OUTLET, and there look beneath the image provided and click on "View More Images" to find the image that illustrates the fans' motors, their shroud, etc; part numbers are given in the parts list beneath the image).
For the RX400h in 2008, both fan's motors are the same, p/n 1636320400; these are also used on the Highlander Hybrid and can be bought from Toyota using the same p/n.
For the RX330 in 2005, two different motors are used, 1636320270 and 1636320280.
For the RX350 in 2007, two different motors are used,1636320270 and 163630P100.
The fan shrouds are also available from Lexus / Toyota, if required. The RX400h shroud is p/n 1671120171, and from what I can ascertain it is different from the shrouds used on the RX330s / RX350s; I do not have their p/ns but they are available from the link given.
Regarding my 2008 RX400h (169kmi, a former Arizona car), I had noticed an odd vibration at times this summer and found it was one of the fans "shaking" occasionally when running. Evidently the fan motor shaft had developed play (on account of worn bearings?) and wouldn't hold the fan steady in all operating situations. A "wiggle test" inspection of both fans, with the engine off, confirmed play in both motors' shafts, although I had only observed the vibration in the one (passenger's side) fan. Otherwise, both fans operated, and the shroud and all ancillary equipment were in fine condition. I bought two new motors (~$200/ea, delivered), replaced the old, and immediately confirmed using the "wiggle" test that the new motors' shafts were devoid of play; now, in operation, the fans operate smoothly.
The RX330/RX350 are supported by third-party replacement / complete fan assemblies (e.g., see RockAuto) for about $130-140, i.e., complete with fan motors, fans, the shroud and puke tank. I could find no similar product for the RX400h.
Regardless, my experience with cheap fan motors (e.g., replacement automotive AC blower motors) has been that they're not worth the copper they're wound with. I suppose they might last a year or two, if that's appropriate to the application; I won't have anything to do with them. The Toyota / Lexus motors are NOT inexpensive, but they were worth it; why fix one problem and at the same time introduce a latent problem by using cheap parts? I guess that's how I think.
Being an Arizona car, the fans likely operated a great deal of the time. Had the vehicle lived in a northern climate, the motors' lifetime may have been longer.

2008RX400h thanks for that info! My 2006 RX400h started doing the same thing and I was thinking about trying a 350 complete unit, and am glad I came across this first. Hopefully it's the same part number.
