RX for towing
Hey RX guys.
I'm looking to buy a RX 330 or 350 for my wife to replace a Chrysler TC we use to pull a popup camper maybe 1000 miles a year.
Will a 2 wheel drive with a 3.3 pull a 1800lb camper.
Did any come with a towing package and if so what did it include?
Does anybody have any experience towing with an RX?
Thanks in advance,
Lex
PS: I have 2 1997 ES300s one has 315k and the other 274k miles and both are still great!

Without the towing package option it is not really recommended to tow with an RX330/RX350. The main component is the transmission cooler.
If you use the search tools for the forums here at CL you will find a number of threads on the topic of towing with a 2nd Generation RX. For example:

Thanks 330. I did look a bit but not too hard.
Do you think a 350 would do better? I can always add a trans oil cooler.
Do these have leaf springs or struts in the rear?
I really don't want to look at the FX SUV just for a few camping trips a year!

You can easily tell if an RX has the towing package by looking at the little opening below the driver side driving light. If there is a small radiator there then you have the towing package.
It is best to find one with the towing package installed from the factory as that will save you the headaches of installing the converter and other bits of the wiring.
RX models without the factory 'TO' package, maximum towing capacity is 2000lbs and are required to purchase the Junction converter box (82670-0E040) Hitch not to exceed 3500 lbs

The tow package is also electrically pre-wired. It is a nightmare to wire non-tow package vehicles.
Even with the tow package, the rear cargo area has to be pretty much disassembled to plug in the hitch's pig tail.
Also recommended is the Lexus tow hitch. It is a bit more concealed and fits perfectly.
