Got some rust...what to do?
I just moved to upstate NY in October last year and winter this year has been some what rougher a couple year back. Had a small door ding for awhile before but now it has a rust surface from all the road salt and snow. I'm thinking of laying a couple coat of touch up paint on top. Am I safe here?

Just layering paint does nothing for the rust which will still be there doing damage. Best to try and remove any evidence of rust before putting any primer or touch up paint down.

agreed, you might have to remove the bumper to get all of the rust off before painting.
in the meantime, you can put some anti rust spray such as rust chek to slow it down until spring when its warmer out.
best option is to take it to a body shop.

I agree with previous replies, covering the problem would not solve it.
And just to throw in another 2c, the pic seem to show some salt all over the place.
You might want to rinse it away ASAP, after using the car on salty roads.
In fact, salt as such is not so dangerous - it's when you give it enough time, that it turns into a problem.
And btw, this is even more true for the undercarriage!

I'm in upstate NY and experiencing the same thing. Brought the car from Chicago and one winter has given me a rust bubble under the rear plate holder. Did you get any estimates to repaint?
