Default New head unit type

Hello!

I intend to replace my sound system with aftermarket. What I need is good sound quality, hands free call capability and usb (preferably front). Keeping steering wheel control would be a plus and backup camera possiblity is also a good option. No need for navigation if if increases price. Really, no need.

My main question is: could I just look for the best i can find (kennwood, pioneer or alpine) orare there constraints in terms of compatibility?

Wheel the axxess steering wheel controller work with any of the mentioned brand's units?

Thank you!

Plenty of information on this existing already here at CL. First, you need to read Carver's writeup:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...a-dnx6960.html

Be sure to read all the way through this as there is also a writeup from 1koolfella who has a setup with the existing NAV.

Then, Packrat1's new writeup:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-installs.html

That should get you started for now. Lots to take in, and as you can see you have a lot of options on how to go. Keep in mind, some of this depends on whether or not you have the factory NAV.

Thank you!

I do not have the factory nav and do not need navigation on the new setup. Anyways, I will reread the threads.

Not having NAV makes your job easier. All the problems you will read about usually start with an owner with the NAV installed and wanting to upgrade but needing to purchase this additional item or two. Once you read through those threads you can post any questions there as appropriate to keep those threads going instead of starting a new one here.

I would think you can install the AVH-X3600BHS unit in your RX330. I just recently had the AVH-X3500BHS installed in my 2008 RX350 and am very happy with the unit. Does everything I was wanting to do.

Thank you for your help! I need a system that will allow me to have a backup camera connected and I also intend to install aftermarket amp and speakers. Also, sound quality is really a plus.
Can I have these with the iPad Mini setup?

You can have all of these with the iPad Mini setup. The only part that would take some work would be adding the backup camera. In my case, I already had it so I didn't have to worry about that. Depending on how tech-savy you are, you could come up with your own option.

The iPad feeds into a Sony Head Unit with aftermarket amps, sub and speakers, so the sound all depends on what you're willing to spend.

I think you gave the impression that the iPad mini somehow replaces the HU. Now it seems more like the iPad mini just serves as a replacement touchscreen monitor. If this is the case, then it actually takes the whole build out of his original scope as stated in the original post, only to add another level of cost and complexity. Eliaquim never mentioned screen size, and it just seems like sourcing an iPad Mini and the dash plate would hitch up the final setup cost by a lot, considering he lives outside of America (trade taxes and shipping fees).

His video gives a better explanation of all that is there:

True, I didn't realize he was outside of the USA. He could also just do a normal factory stereo replacement with a head unit and just pair via Bluetooth from any device for music. I can do that with my setup for the times I don't bring the iPad Mini with me.

Thank you all! Being outside of the usa has some disadvantages in this case. I will have to buy parts from usa or china and have them mailed, which is risky. However, buying the ipad mini would not be a problem. I just do not wish to add another layer with it. So I decided I will get a pioneer had unit (avs-x3600) from ebay and the other accessories.

Thank you.
