Default Wheel and tire size

Hello!

I have the following tires on my rx330: 255/35r/18. I bought the car with these tires.
On another thread, someone said it is not a good size for this car. Can you please twll me why? Should I go back to original sizes (235/55/18)? Even if tires are very expensive here? 1700usd a set of goodyear?

Thank you!

Problems:
Width -- possible rubbing against suspension pieces under load and turns

Sidewall -- minimal, giving a harder/rougher ride.

Wait until you need tires. If you plan in advance for new wheels and tires you can keep an eye open for a deal should one come around your direction.

There is no noteceable rubbing, but I can feel the roughness of the ride. Too hard, indeed.

Would it affect the longevity of wheel bearings or coils, suspenssion?

The tires will probably not last long enough to do any real damage. You may need to spend additional money on getting your teeth, spine and kidneys checked from the jarring ride.

Eliaquim, you said you had no rubbing issues with the 255 width ? that's good because I want to go with 255/55/18 's and was wondering about any rubbing issues. Does anyone have any knowledge if 255/55/18 would have any issues on a '08 RX 350 ?

There have been some reports about rubbing under certain load conditions and tight turns. Others have reported success. Depends on the tire's overall width which can vary by brand even in the same size. Even tire pressure differences can make a difference.

Some of those without problems installed spacers to make it work. Plenty of examples here at CL, you just need to search. Such as:

Not too crazy about using spacers, the decreased room between the tire and the strut mount and the 7" width of the stock wheel are all good points to consider. Thanks for the link RX330inFL

Yes, no rubbing, but...
I went took them for their first long trip, 500 miles and lost 2 tires due to pot holes. I suppose you do not have much of these holes, but, just in case. The tires put the road surface too close to the rims.

UPDATE:
After losing 2 tires in a country where it is very difficult to find tires my size (Namibia), I was forced to change to 235/65/17. The height is very good for our roads, but it feels like the car undulates a little bit. Is it because of the tires' height or the rims' being alluminium? Or tire quality (nexen, from China) Also, the rims have those plastic rings and pcb adjusters. I intend to sell the set and get good 235/55/18 (only goodyears available). What do you suggest?

NEXEX tires are garbage. If you can find a set of Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring you would be much happier. They are well liked here in the States.

Yes, I checked before buying and they seem to be garbage. But the only option I had was nexen, pace, or lose my job back in my country. See, I was in Namibia and they did not have good tires. Not even 18" ri s that I want.

It was an emergency, so I got the nexens to get back to my country. Just note that the nexens are quiter than the durun that where there before.

But I will sell and buy a good set of Goodyear, which is the o ky good option I have in my town. Very expensive.
