OK, did that. Do I need to remove the heat shield off the exhaust manifold to get at the bracket on the back of the alternator?

No you do not. I believe you need a 10mm socket. Feel it by hand, or use a small mirror to locate the bolt

Default removal success!

Thanks so much. Removal is complete.
Now to get the new one put back in.
BTW - the nut behind the alternator is a 12mm.

Thanks again for all the help - it's finally out. What a pain. I assume there is no special trick to putting the new one in?
Now I have to remember where all the nutz and boltz go

OK, almost all back together. The replacement was much easier than the removal

One necessary trick - using tape on the socket to keep the nut/bolt from falling out. Worked great in a number of places especially that hidden nut for the thermostat housing.

But, I broke the radiator filler neck - I have a new one but would like a little guidance on yanking the old one out. I have the locking clip of the old one off, but its really tight and I am concerned that I will break something expensive...

Any pointers will be much appreciated.

[done] As it turns out, the o-ring gets very attached to the parts. Carefull prying on both side with screw drivers and it came off a little then just poped off. It took quite of bit of leverage to get it off.

The radiator filler neck broke for me as well, glad you got it back together.
