Can someone please decode this part of VIN: ha31u
The complete VIN number is this:
JTJHA31U540001618
and I have figured out most of the characters already except for the middle portion where it describes the car model, color, options and such.
The reason I am asking for this piece of information is to find out if my Lexus dealer is commiting foul play. See, this is the second time the dealer told me the car that I ordered was ready, but only to call me AGAIN the night before the pick up date to gave me some excuses why they won't be able to deliver after all. I am pi$$ed AND suspicious. The excuse this time was "oh, sorry it was the wrong color, oops!" I mean, get serious. I don't know how this whole car ordering thing works, but my guess is: the dealer ordered the car from Japan; when Toyota Japan ready to ship a boat-load of cars to N.America, it would provide a list of the VINs of all the RX330 that was in this particular shipment; the dealer got the list , went through it, and say "there, this is the car that I need." How hard is it to find out the color from the VIN? I ordered Bamboo Pearl and he was trying to give me a BLACK one! Gimme a break!
Now, he gave me the VIN (for insurance purpose obviously) and I want to find out if this VIN says my car is supposedly Bamboo or FREAKING BLACK ?!?!?!
Please help.
Thanks.

i don't know if that's the case w/ VIN numbers. but for your own piece of mind, my VIN differs from yours in the following respects:
- mine is u24 instead of u54
- the last four digits of mine is 1642
everything else is the same. not sure what kind you ordered, but i have a silver/black AWD with Nav/Levinson, DVD rear entertainment and 18" wheels.
given those minor differences in the VIN #'s, i'm not sure you can conclude what color VIN #s represent. i would guess that the U24 vs. U54 might have something to do with AWD vs. FWD. i think all the rest of the numbers after the U24/U54 is just a counter . . .
either way, it sounds suspect that your dealer would be getting special orders so soon. that usually takes 3-4 months. i think what he might be doing is "predicting" what's coming up in his weekly allocations. they have a good sense of what's coming, but they don't know colors or options for sure until the allocation arrives on their computers. so the only way you will personally ever know if he's telling you the truth is to have him show you the allocation sheet. if that's the VIN # he gave you, then he must have the allocation sheet this time.
that would be my guess on the whole thing. good luck!

and 1403 instead of 1618.
Mine is a AWD Breakwater Blue/Black.
You might want to try and register it on
Lexus Owners and see if it comes up. It might not though as it hasn't been processed by a dealer yet.

Looks like Canada only gets the 18" wheels with the Sport Package. Talk to your dealer and see if they can order some for you.
I saw your pictures the other day. I thought to myself, now that's a nice looking vehicle.
