RX330 Nav System DVD
What is the current version of the DVD for the Nav system. The version on mine shows 0201. If this means Jan 2002, that's quite dated.... I suspect this because my Nav system doesn't have maps for areas of my city that have been there since April of last year.
Is this the version that the 330's come with? Is there a more current version available? If not ,when will the next version be available?
Thanks

Mine is ".ver 02.1" which I guess is the same thing. I've asked the dealer and the Lexus customer service why a 2004 model doesn't have a later version. The newest one will be out this Oct. and will the the 03 version, which can be purchased (no free upgrades I guess). I complained about not being able to just program in a city as a destination (except for using the overall map and cursor) and how goofy the listings are in the intersection option. There is also not a screen which shows your longitude and latitude, etc. I also noticed that the manual says the NavTech copyright date is 2001 and the InfoUSA is 2002.

How much will they charge for the update when it's made available? For owners taking delivery just before it's release, it's too bad that Lexus doesn't include one free update.

I agree, the Nav disk seems out-dated. I've been testing certain "POI" (Home Depot, Best Buys, etc) in the Northern Virginia (Fairfax County) and I get stores in Richmond, ~120 miles away!!!!!
Not sure how certain stores get listed on the DVD, but I know these stores have been around for more than 3 years. Go figure.....

My dealer said that a DVD update costs $600. I think this is outrageous considering that a new 330 with Nav comes with an oudated DVD and when the new verson comes out in Oct (four months from now) I'm expected to shell out $600.
I think Lexus should give free updates to the Nav DVD for one year after purchase of a new vehicle.....
Any other opinions?

I think that $600 for a NAV update for any RX system is ridiculous, period. A free update for a NAV system within one year should be a foregone asumption. Other than gouging the luxury market (which probably would resist it the most), I wonder how much play Lexus gets with these price points. I get bogus road numbers on my system (whatever came in November 2000 when I purchased my RX300). I would love to upgrade, but I don't want to be hosed through the nose.

it's version 02.1 - not the date 02.01
still it IS outdated - there are some new roads in the N. Texas area that aren't listed but I still think the Lexus Nav is GREAT - I love the touchscreen, the POI, etc
also MY dealer said the cost to upgrade to the new software was $200 when released in October - seems a bit more reasonable

NAV Update
I have a 330 on order, with an expected delivery date of early July. I posed this question to my dealer, and was told that neither Lexus nor the dealer would provide a free update in October. The reason is that they pay an outside company to update the maps, and they expect that customers will be willing to pay for updates. Incidentally, my dealer (in Northern VA) said they expect our charge to be $375 for the update. I'm extremely frustrated at this lack of customer service, and plan to call the 800# on Monday to complain. Maybe if more of us complain, they will at least include free updates during the warranty period.

Maybe they will read the C&D review of the RX330 and change their minds? C&D liked the RX330 a lot but sure didn't like the NAV - it kept trying to put them into the ocean!

Not that I would do anything as illegal as this.. but imagine how inexpensive it would be if owners to upon themselves to chip for major updates and copied and distrubuted to others. Of course that would be illegal.

Yes it's illegal, but that is beside the point, which is that Lexus, which wants us to feel that we are buying the "relentless pursuit of perfection" is itself not relentless, but inconsistent, gouging in some places more than others on some things like the NAV, being recalcitrant about the laying on of options that you don't need on you, being non-responsive, etc. Whether or not Lexus pays an outside vendor, there should be some uniformity in offering upgrades. They have a tremendous audience and market for these upgrades; therefore, they should demand economies of scale from their vendors and pass them on reasonably (and consistently) to us. That would be more in keeping with Lexus' motto.

I had written Lexus concerning the 2002 GPS database in a 2004 vheicle and the update procedure that Lexus is planning. This was the reply:
.
Thank you for contacting the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department regarding the Navigation Update concerns you have with your 2004 RX 330. I apologize for the dissatisfaction with the Navigation software and update costs. I have documented your concerns at our national headquarters.
We appreciate the feedback on your vehicle so that we may consider your comments for future models. I am sorry for any inconvenience this situation has caused you.
Don't know if others will help, also noted it on my dealer satisfaction card
