It sounds as if the button on your key fob may be bad. Do you have another key to try?

You have problems. First off, never, never, NEVER own a car and not have a spare key. Pray like hell that you never lose your key.

As for the hatch problem, I don't know how to diagnose if you have a keyfob problem or a car problem. Autozone used to have a tester in the stores that you press the remote and a light would come on if the tester sensed the remote. Maybe they still have them. They were small and buried on the counter with all the other stuff there. Call a couple of stores and ask if they still have it.

Have you tried changing the battery in the keyfob? Maybe it is getting low. It uses a type CR2016.

Another possibility is that maybe dirt has built up under the button and is keeping the button from being fully depressed. It does happen, but I have not had to try to take the remote apart on these cars, it may not be possible.

First Thanks for the reply.
Just got the car a couple of days ago, no owners manual, downloaded one and ordered one also, when you press the "PWR Key" the Red light on the Fob lights up. Inclined to think the pwr key is working.
After looking at the manual and the options you have when programing the Key, Someone could have had this option set to off. the only thing left that I can think of, is the Receiver for the Rear Hatch. (if there is such a thing).

If you push the button little LED indicator blink? Hatch key needs to be pushed down for a second or two compared to lock/unlock door button. Hold the button down until you hear beep from the fob. Just to be sure replace battery and have another key made ASAP.

I get the blinking LED, and holding down the button for 2 or more seconds, no beep, but the tail lights flash, the fob works fine on ever thing else, guess I'll take it to a dealer to get it programed. thanks for the input.

I think before you go to the dealership, you should check the owner's manual. My GS 350 has some kind of button you have to push in the glove compartment to activate the trunk. Otherwise you can't open it with the dash button, the key fob or a crowbar. It is some kind of feature that if your car is stolen and you have a trunk full of Christmas gifts the crooks can't figure out how to open the trunk once they've stolen your car, I think.

If you stand close to the hatch and push the fob button there you should hear the 'click' sound of latch actuator?
Do you hear anything? Also checked fuse?

Press unlock button 2x. Then hold button to right of it once and you should hear hatch opening. If this doesn't work press the lock/arm button again and repeat. You may have to press the right button a but longer. I can't recall. It's just intuitive and you do it. I had trouble as well but that's the pattern. Mine is a 2004 RX however.

Done it, no luck. I see a trip to the dealer to get key fob programing checked , if the key is ok, then I have a problem with the car.
Thanks for your help.

post two and six.

If everything else works on the key fob and via the lift gate, then it has to be programming.
