Default 08 RX 350/ Lifter noise at start up

Hi, new to forum, Just purchased 2008 RX 350 115,000 MILES , Rattle or lifter noise at start uo first thing in morning for about a second ,then after that. ok
Switched to 5-30 mobile one full synthetic but still has the same noise. Mechanic said not to worry about it. Should not hurt the engine. Am concerned about
long term implications. I am sure there are many posts about this and didn't want to be to redundant, but here I am asking for help on this subject. in lieu of searching.
Would appreciate any advise or experience anyone has had. Thanks

Cam gear rattle? If so don't worry about it all though non-synthetic has helped me reduce the noise

Valves never need adjusted on these, they are controlled and adjusted electronically.
There is a bit of normal ticking that is common and not to worry about when cold. Lasts until engine is about 1/4 warm.
There is a worse ticking noise that can occur during startup for a few moments. It is louder and is a loose cam gear. This one needs your attention. I will link at TSIB below that explains, identifies, and shows Lexus is aware of it. It can last ticking for sometime, but can also fail. Typically though, before failure it will turn check engine light on and give a code. When and if that ever happens get it looked at asap as you could damage your engine if it's loose enough.

in Australia, the factory recommended oil is 10-40 SAE. Most places the temp range would be 8-30c.

Depending on your location a slightly thicker oil could be used.

Hi, again, after reading some posts on this, I am thinking maybe normal. Cold start in Phoenix may mean 100 to 110 % this time of year, however, on start up this noise is for just a
a second this goes away and no noise after that until sits for a long time, like over night. This a great forum for discussion and I like he format. Thanks to all in response.RJ

This might be related to a bad (or failing) Oil Control Valve for the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) cam. Do an ODBII check with a code reader, or at a Auto parts store. See if you are getting any codes.

An Old Skool approach, put in a can of motor honey, like STP, it's thick and coats the metal parts until the engine oil can start lubricating everything after it's drained back into the pan. A friend tried this on his '07 RX, and he said the noise at startup went away and it doesn't do any Harm.

The oil has bleed down from the vvt-t's, which you can see the external oil lines going to the head. Crank the engine over a few seconds & let go off the key before it starts. As that'll prime the vvti.......
