I've read through lots of threads about changing the timing belt and water pump. But no one gave any type of ballpark cost. My car has 110k on it and is due. So I'm debating whether to take it to a dealer or private shop. I've seen the videos on how to do it and I said "no way" to DIY. I've got better things to do than spend a weekend in the garage.

Here's a thread that may help....

I purchased the parts online & fortunately have a extremely reasonable & qualified mechanic for the last 10 years (also a friend), my total cost was $260.
You should be able to find a independent mechanic with Toyota experience for around $300. (for the labor).

TKT026 Aisin OEM - Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump
Interference Engine: With; Hydraulic Tensioner: Included $179.33
TKT006 Aisin OEM - Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump
Interference Engine: With; Hydraulic Tensioner: Not Included $167.97
Toyota long life RED [pre-mix 50/50 or concentrate] 8L- 9.5L ~$50
I did coolant flush after timing belt services but I did bring a gallon concentrate antifreeze to the general indy shop for top up use.
Local labor charges may various, I have mine done by indy at $300 five years ago.
Did @150K km now 230K km still running smooth.

Hey thanks guys. Thats really a lot less than I expected. I remember doing it on my '06 Highlander and it was north of $1,300 about 2 years ago. Of course that was at the stealership. So if it's done at a private shop there's no record of it other than your receipt right? I know some places tie into the Lexus online database to record services.
