This is probably a rhetorical topic: regarding the cold start up rattle for about 2 seconds then quiets down . Its getting a little more annoying I had put synthetic 5-30 in it about a month ago. can't seem to get any definitive answers on whats causing this and how to repair or forget this as some mechanics have indicated that it won't harm the engine.
I am concerned about the long term duration of this problem. REX has 120k and runs great good power , shifts good. Different opinions about it.
I am sure other forum members have had this problem so......any suggestions Would appreciate any ideas.Thanks for response.

 

my experience is that most "rattle" for maybe < 0.5 sec on cold start.

I also do not believe there is any long term damage to the engine due to this.

 

Thank you Tomr51, My mechanic alson advise not to worry, but it was getting steadly worse. My question is there a remedy for this start up
I am trying to understand the function behind the oil draining down into oil pan and not staying up to lubricate a cold start. Is this the desine of the engine
or a malfuntion of the engine. Someone had suggested an additive such as Bartol 1 or somethinglike that so upper engine would not rattle on cold start up.
Anyother ideas out there or is everyone in agrrement about gthe problem . Iam Lexus is aware of it , but do they have a simple solution. Thanks

 

My mechanic said it's normal. Will not hurt the engine.
It's just annoying.
I solved it by turning up the radio.
