Odd that they are recommending against a Lexus.... If it were a BMW, Benz, Audi, or other German equivalent I would understand as I maintain a few of those alongside the vast fleet of Japanese cars. Time after time Toyota and Honda and their respective subsidiaries have held their weight.

You should be fine if you're able to get a well-maintained RX350 in the years closer to the generation end (2007-2009). This way, you have a timing chain you don't have to worry about given good maintenance, and the facelift brings changes to a few things and kinks of the earlier model years.

2005 RX330 getting ready to hit 168,000. Drives great, looks good, interior is perfect (dash replaced under warranty)

Basic maintenance and replaced all drive line fluids. Timing Belt around 110K (factory belts looked pristine). Brakes, tires, plugs, etc. as needed.

Planning to keep her indefinitely. Running so smoothly that you can't even tell it is running when inside.

Default 351,000

i have 362000 miles on my 2005 330. This isn’t hard in so cal where it’s all fwy driving. Now it’s become a game to see how far I can go without major repair. This is the original engine and transmission. Just regular maintenance and oil changes.

Wow, that is awesome. I have 210,000 on my 2004 RX330. Did the timing belt, spark plugs and valve cover gaskets about 15,000 miles ago. Everything working as it should but have a very slight antifreeze leak at the thermostat. That will be my next project.

My wife’s 2007 RX350 has 122,000 miles. i have been a car guy since I was 14 and am now 65 and retired. I have maintained her car since she got it at 15,000 miles. I just did the entire 120,000 mile service and the spark plug change was hilarious what were they thinking. Wiper cowl off, intake off, air box out, basic disassemble of the top of the motor just to get to that back bank of plugs. Getting to “the bolt of death” on the back of the intake was truly one for the record books. Agreed with all comments, basically every car I have owned it is the same routine, very good Dino oil every 3000 miles, air filters changed regularly, follow maintenance in owners manual, keep good tires, have alignments done every year, and good to go. Her RX has been one of the most trouble free car I have ever maintained. She fully intends to drive it to 300,000 miles.

2009 w/ 110K miles on the clock. Major repairs:
  • Rack and pinion steering leak = $1,800 repair by lexus (lexus picked up half of the cost)
  • CV Boot leak (driver side) at about 90K miles
  • CV Boot leak (passenger side) at 110K miles
Other stuff is maintenance, oil changes, brakes, filters, etc...
