Default flat key code

I have a 2009 RX350 and can't find the small rectangular metal key number plate, but I did find the flat key card. On the black key card is a key code. Is that the key code for the master key or just the code for the flat key? I'm not sure if there is a difference.

If you are trying to get a new key cut, you don't need a key code. The better lock smiths will use your current key to determine your key code. Doing it that way prevents typos from causing expensive keys to be ruined.

Thanks, I had just called one locksmith and he asked for the code. I'll try others. Still curious about that code, though..

I am a locksmith. The code on the card is good for both the flat key and the remote/key combo. Unless you are referring to the single chip key with grey head... then in that case there's a good chance that it's a valet key. Which means it wouldn't work the glovebox. I work with my family owned locksmith business and there is an automotive locksmith we turn all of our work over to. He works out of our shop, but he's his own company. I can ask him for clarity. Truth is most good locksmiths can cut a key by code and program. Then like smassey321 said they can decode the current key by putting it into the machine and it will read the cuts and then copy to a new one. Sidenote: Most don't know but of the Honda's produced from 03+ the only difference between a valet key and what they call a master key is the last cut. It's always a 1 on the valet key and a 5 on the master key. Only the last cut. It's all that changes the difference. And in most cases with other brands the same in done. I've also seen that done on Toyota double sided keys. If you have any further questions please let me know! -Bryan

Thanks for the info, Bryan. The brittle black plastic housings on the Lexus keys are a pain. I'm saving my pennies for a vehicle with keyless entry.
