Default 05 RX330 won't start. Sounds like electrical motor is spinning that's it

Has anybody had this problem, the ignition is turned and the engine will not start but there is a spinning sound that sounds like electrical. I'm waiting on a tow truck to try jump-started to see if that is the issue. Not sure if this is a starter issue either. Anyone have this experience let me know what you found out thank you aloha

My "guess" is starter solenoid. Probably best to replace the whole starter on an '05. Around $100 from rockauto plus labor. Good luck!

can you load a vid? or audio file? On a beater jeep grand cherokee I had, as the starter was dying, (according to my transmission guy), they can slightly misalign, the teeth on the starter and the teeth and whatever it needs to turn to start the engine in the tranny, and causes the teeth to not quite catch, thus losing teeth, and then the starter just spins.

An old school trick we used to do was take a metal rod and whack the starter.

Sometimes the car would turn over.

Seriously.

Just to make sure, as starter housing is made out of cast aluminum.
You do not whack it with "metal".
You whack it with hammer HANDLE, which is WOOD or with mallet, if you can. Point being not to crack housing and to force Bendix to pop out and engage with flywheel. There's also possibility of flywheel tooth chipped off, so even functioning Bendix can't engage.

Agreed. You dont want to whack it hard enough to damage it. You just need something solid enough to free it up.
