Default RX330 Noisy Engine

I went to my local lexus dealer today and test drove one of the brand new RX330 AWD demo car. However, I have noticed the noise level was pretty loud. I have driven my other two lexus vehicles for many years and I could compare and hear the difference. Other than this issue, I think the car is almost perfect.

Are there any new RX330 owners feedback?

Thanks!!
Rocky

You'll find a number of feedback threads on this forum. Just scroll down a bit

The engine note has also been discussed. Some of us actually like the sporty snarl. Some feel it's more truck-like and don't like it. A few of us believe that this was an intention change on the part of Lexus to give the RX a sportier sound.

heck yeah the sportier and gnarly-er the better!!

the recall issue also addresses this and once the parts are replaced the engine quiets down a bit

but not too much!

Jeff,

Can you or someone post (cut and paste perhaps), the text of the recall? The Canadian Lexus site doesn't show anything about this yet.

Thanks.

I like how the 330's engine sounds. My IS had a good exhaust note, but didn't care for the engine "purr". 330, I'm still waiting... 1 month, 1 week, and a day so far...

I went to another local dealer to test drive the new RX330 today. This will be my second test drive before I put down the deposit. Surprisingly, the engine noise was not as bad as my first test drive experience yesterday. Probably it has to do with the test drive route and it was done today mostly on the highway running at 65mph. I think the car is running a lot quiet when crusing in high gears.

I couldn't wait and placed an order for RX330 Silver/black with NAV package and it will arrive in my garage within two weeks (I feel very lucky to get the car i wanted so quick)

Way to go Rock! you're gonna love it!

Lexterious....here ya go...

from the Lexus.com owner's site...

(3LE) 2004 Model Year RX 330 Exaust Manifold Converter Assemblies Replacement
As your dealer must make arrangements to assure the necessary parts are in stock,
please contact your authorized Toyota dealer to make ana appointment at your earliest convenience.

from the mailer I received in the US mail...

On certain early 2004 Model Year RX 330 vehicles, due to a manufacturing error in the two exhaust manifold converter assemblies, an abnormal noise could be generated from the exhaust system. Any Lexus dealer will replace the two exhaust manifold converter assemblies at NO COST to you. The labor time for this repair will take approximately two hours. Please contact any Lexus dealer or call the Lexus Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-255-3987

just fyi - thanks to the heads-up from this forum I was the first to present this issue to my local dealership (Sewell) svc dept. They confirmed it within a day, had the parts within a week and I was also first to have the procedure done - it took only one day (I picked up a loaner early and they had it ready by close of business) and ever since I've noticed a quieter ride.

Was going to ask if the ride was going to be quieter, so I guess you answered my question. Thought it was pretty uncharacteristic that the RX was so noisy for a Lexus. Hope to take mine in soon for the recall once I find the time.
