The fuel level monitoring unit in gas tank is failing or sticking. When I fill I can get the fuel gauge needle to go to max but as the fuel level goes down, at some point below half I can't trust it.

When I first noticed a couple weeks ago the car was showing a quarter, I filled it and the needle stayed at a quarter. Lasted a day or so and bounced back up.

i then ran it as close to dry as I could and put in a few gallons and the needle stayed down. The onboard computer display kept ticking down to 0 miles left in tank. I topped it off today and after a few miles (and some hard braking) the needle pops back to max.

I searched the forum and looked at the parts list and can't figure it out.

Wondering if it's an old school bobber type set up that is sticking and not relaying data.

Sort of. The fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel level sensor is one big assembly inside the gas tank. But it uses a float arm on the side so you can mess with it.

Ill try to get to it this weekend and see if I can free up the plunger, otherwise will get the new pump once it fails.
