Default Help: 2004 Locking issue

Hello everyone,

I need help on my mothers RX has a door locker issue. The car can be locked by power lock button and car key lock button, however it will not unlock. It does make the unlocking sound but door locks wont turn to unlock.
I have read a while that its the actuator but from what I've read, it is the little motor stops working and it does not either lock or unlock. And on this one able to lock all doors however cant unlock all doors and have to unlock by key and the driver have to unlock all doors by hand manually.
If it is indeed the actuator exchange needed then shouldnt it not be able to lock aswell?
I need help on this.
Much thanks

The motor inside these actuators get weaker and weaker over time until they do not produce enough torque to actuate the locking mechanism. It takes slightly different amounts of force to lock vs. unlock your door hence why one action can fail before the other. Give it a few months and you won't be able to lock as well.

Oh I see. The locking has been working for a while now actually, over a year I believe. So then if i can change the motor, it will fixed? If cant then change the full actuator right?

Thanks for your message

If it wont unclock all four doors then highly doubt all four actutaor moters worn out at the sametime. A weak or slow locking or unlcoking sound means a failing actuator motor.

I see. I guess I'll have to give a try to change one of actuator and see if it fixes.
I went to some car repair and the repairman goes "something to do with the computer" like some settings etc. I mean is there a such thing? or did he misinterpret the actuator?

Edit: I've been searching about this online and come across this Central Locking System. Could there a reason due this and not being able to unlock doors?

The central locking system controls the door locks when you go from Park to Reverse or Drive. It can be programmed to only unlock the driver side door or all doors when the transmission is placed in Park. The actuator motor turns both clockwise and counters clockwise. Depend if it is locking or unlocking which may explain why it only unlocks, but have problems locking. You can also program it so that all doors will unlock with one click or only the driver side door will unlock. The default is one click of the remote will unlock the driver side door and a second click immediately after the first click will unlock all doors. HTH

Actuator motor is cheap and can be changed easily if you are handy.
In Techstream here is the defaut setting for doors locking and unlocking, no experience of last parameter set to "ON", it more like one click for all doors open and close.

I see. Thank you for replies and help. I guess I will try to change one of the doors motors and see if it fixes it.
