I have to try to look back at my notes or posts because I couldn't remember if it was valvoline or penzoil but one of them made my engine tick badly when cold & visiting up north on vacation.
Wish I can remember which one, anyway put in Mobil 1 and oil flowed much better and no ticking when 30F degrees, I think it may have been valvoline.

I just changed my wife's 08 RX350 oil. I used to put Mobil 1 HM 5-30. After replacing the valve cover gasket, I always used 5 quarts jug of Mobil 1 5-30 and 1.5 quarts of Supertech 5-30 Synthetic, no ticks or nothing. Last weekend I used a 5 quarts jug of Oreily 5-30W HM and 1.5 quarts of Supertech 5-30 Synthetic, still not ticks. Anyway, I believe oils are oils but I do change it every 5K or 6 months whichever come first and I always use the Toyota oil filter element.
When I used Mobil 1 (early on with our RX), I sent in an oil sample to Blackstone and the iron count was higher than what I was used to seeing. I switched to Pennzoil Platinum, got the oil analyzed and never looked back. Almost 280,000 miles and going strong. Nothing wrong with Mobil 1, it is a great oil; however, based upon my experience, I just prefer Pennzoil.
Thanks guys, I appreciate.
I honestly haven't tried any other brands since cuz I'm too afraid too.
It's my only car and daily driver and need her to run good as long as possible.
One day I'll bite the bullet and trade up but I really like this car. 2004 RX330

Ive still have a jug of this Royal Purple in my shed almost 2 years.
I bought it after reading good reviews and then I decided not to run it because I saw reviews warning that it has detergents that clean too aggressively and can dislodge varnish & gunk that can clock oil passageways and destroy cams and cranks.
So just wondering what ya'll think.
1) Is it safe to use on our cars?
2) What is the shelf life on oil aka is it safe to use it after sitting 2 years?
3) Noticed I bought the wrong weight, what ya'lls thoughts on the weight- too thin or ok?
Thank You!

I would run the proper weight though. 2yrs isn't the end of the world for syn. oil.
I recently converted an 04 to synthetic. It no longer lives in a garage, and was exposed to -30c regularly this past winter & 30c in the summer, figured it'll be better for winter/hot summer months.
Ran LiquiMoly engine flush thru it. Put a WIX filter along with some high mileage Synthetic (Canadian brand, made by shell).
I think the tick you experienced was a fluke. I have a ton of Toyota's in the family, ran all sorts of oil from cheap bulk to super brand name with no issues over the years.

Also, 2 years is nothing for synthetic oil.
In my opinion, if you have a properly maintained engine, it will be fine

Since you have it & its a synthectic oil, I'd use. Main thing is to use a synthectic oil vs dino oil as well as change the oil/filter 4-5K

Thank you all.
Ok' I'll go ahead and run it in my next oil change instead of tossing it since it wasn't cheap to buy.
I realize it doesn't say "high mileage" oil but noticed reviews of people with high miles running it so thought I would try it.

I've never used HM oil.....So whats that get you? So at 75k, you start using hm oil & it magically makes the engine brand new? LOL Similar to ask your Dr about such & such pill is right for you.....Pharmaceutical indrusty as well as the oil indrusty at work....Use a quality synthectic oil/filter @ 4-5k, similar to eating decent food & getting exercise......
