Hello everyone, I recently just bought an 05 Lexus RX 330. It has around 55k miles and I just noticed today that it might have a power steering rack leak. The leak isn't bad and isn't falling on the pavement, but it seems as if one of the boots have a hole in it. Here's a picture.
Classic known problem with these cars. 1st thing to do, is try some Lucas Oil Power Steering stop leak, follow directions. The PS reservoir is under small cover, top right side of engine and is very likely low. You can just replace the boots cheaply, if the stop leak works (HF ball joint separator works well). There are both youtube videos and discussions on this forum for both cheap fixes. On mine, the stop leak is working, and I put on new boots only, all well for a year, 10K miles so far (up to 90K total).
Follow directions on Lucas bottle, just top it off with the stuff as needed. If it is already to max mark, seller may have topped it off, you could just suck out about 3 ozs or so and add that much Lucas.
Replaced my whole rack a few months ago, didn't even bother with the Stop Leak. Wet boot turned into loosing almost all the reservoir fluid in a day. I had this same issue on the old Highlander, new rack for peace of mind.
