Default How to Tap Into Reverse Lamp Wire in the Cabin?

2008 RX 350 The purple wire in the gray connector reads +12V when the car is put in reverse. This must be the reverse light wire I was looking for.
Hello, all!

New Lexus owner here. Installing a Kenwood DNX575S head unit along with a back up camera. The Kenwood has a long purple lead labeled "REVERSE" which needs to be connected to a wire in the cabin that powers the backup lights.

I know this topic has been covered in several different threads in this forum, but the answers don't seem to really apply to my car. The description in a thread titled "RX330 Reverse Light Tap in Cab?" was for a 2006 RX330 and read "Reverse wire is in the driver's kick panel, green to red, in the gray 20 pin plug." The accompanying photo in that thread looks similar to my configuration, but I have no green to red wires in the pin block. And all the wires are differently colored than that picture.

I was hoping someone here had done an install on a 2007, 2008, or 2009 RX 350, and could share their wisdom. I have searched until my eyes hurt. Thank you!

Here is the schematic of the 2008 RX reverse light circuit. It does not use a purple wire. However, Lexus loves to change wire colors between junction points, so you can never be sure. Plus this diagram does not reference the radio.Since you found that one wire does have 12 volts when the back-up lights are on, it seems that it is the one. For a second test, do a continuity test (power off) on the wire from the radio connector to on of the back-up lights

Wonder if I can ask a huge favour. I am moving a DNX694S into my RX and got no wiring or instructions, but have original receipt. It was a legitimate purchase pulled from a lease return, bare bones unit only. Would you consider sending me a photo and parts list from your unit. The local audio shop lost out on the sale so they may or may not be prone to help me.

Thank you for the reply. The schematic is fantastic. May I ask where you got it? I'm pretty web-resourceful but I came up very short looking for online repositories for the RX.

More to the point, of interest to me is that the schematic as you stated shows no purple wire. Also it seems to show the +12V wire leaving the *passenger* side kick panel (not the drivers side!) as a green wire at joint connector 20 and 21, but arriving at the rear junction block as a red wire. This can be quite confusing. I don't know if Lexus has configuration diagrams to indicate the physical locations of the various connectors, but tracking one down will be my next step.

Makes me wonder, then, what the heck wire I have tapped into behind the driver's side kick panel? I hope it is not powering something like a microprocessor that may be sensitive to a small voltage drop that the Kenwood may be drawing.

Not sure what you mean by "parts list" but here is a link to JVC Kenwood's user manual download site for your unit.
