Hello All, I am so sorry if this post has already been made or if there is a known solution that has been already posted.
I am in town, visiting my elderly mother who is the owner of the 2004 RX330 I am trying to help her get some affairs in order and this tailgate is the top of my list.
A few months ago the lift gate stopped functioning correctly.
- Pressing power door on the key fob does not do anything. No lights, no motor noise, nada.
- Same goes for power door button inside vehicle. No noise, no lights, no motor.
- I have checked the button in the glove box and it is in the correct position.
-When attempting to manually open using the button above the license plate the lift gate opens maybe 1 door but will not go higher. When pressed down to close, you are able to hear the motor shutting it all the way.
Ideally trunk access would be helpful for her, but not sure if the repair cost would fit her fixed income at the moment. Does anyone know if there is a manual override?

We have an 2007, which is similar. From time to time, the rear hatch would not open when pressing the button. Typical cause is either weak strut or weak motor.
Between the 2, strut was cheaper. Today, I was trying to remove the strut, I realize how strong the old one was as I can barely push down with my hands. And when the hatch is wide open, it has no problem in supporting the weight. Because of it, I’m thinking it could be the motor? Look up YouTube as there’s a video on how to change out the motor he got used via eBay.

Try replacing the rear struts, that's the cheaper option and see if it solves the issue. More than 50% it will. They are about $40 per pair on Amazonic.
