Default Stupid mistake on my 2006 rx400h. I put a new 12v battery in and hooked it up reverse

2006 rx400h new 12v battery reversed polarity. Positive cable smoked and sparked. 4 blown smart fuses blown and replaced. It starts and runs but no interior accessories work, wont shift, p/s light on and no power steering, brake light on,abs light on, NO headlights, nav screen, stereo, windows work. Could not find a fusable link like in non hybrid rx cars. Can anyone she'd some light on what to do next please. Relays I've not checked yet. I heard there is a relay with fuses in back where hybrid batteries are for the p/s. Help please😓

Best to get it towed to a reliable shop who works on Lexus cars. You certainly had a big lesson learned.

Since this is a Hybrid and not a conventional gas engine vehicle I would take the car to either Lexus or Toyota. Most likely you damaged the DC-DC converter if you're lucky it will only be a module or fuse. The hybrid battery is rated at 288V DC enough to be lethal.

there should be a fusible link I believe on these vehicles. 100A or 120A I think.... sorry I don't know more about it.

The 120 did look blown but upon trying to take it out I broke it all to pieces. Is this the main fuse I believe

It was indeed the 120 main fuse 😥 everything works great again.

well I am in exactly the situation. After diying so much on my RX400H- new rad, o2 sensors, height adjuster, brakes. Then I zap the fuses like a moron by reverse polarity. It was the end of a tiring day and I had rotated battery and just messed up. 5 seconds of big sparks, headlights full on. Idiot.

Replaced 5 minor fuses. Getting exactly the same p/s, abs, locked shifter, brake light, dead Nav screen etc. The only difference is the car doesn’t run very well or for long.

The main fuse is a pita to replace. I realise now why some of the PAL fuses you can buy have open ended spears rather than holes you have to unscrew out of.

I was wondering if I could tear out the copper spades of the busted fuse so each spear would rip off each bolt. Then I could push in one of those open ended spear types.

I guess a temporary fix wiring the ends of the busted fuse is mad.

Default Oh no - I did the same...

Hi Vicenze,

I did the same. End of long day, polarity reversed. Now I get:
- Check VSC System
- Check AWD System
- Check Hybrid System

I checked the fuse under the bonnet and only the horn fuse appears blown.

I checked the fuse box under the glove box, that all seems well.

I just bought a Techstream and I am going to figure it out. Did you manage to get yours fixed? Where is this main fuse that you mention? I am trying to get the workshop manual now to check through everything ...
