Changed my Power Steering Rack...Now VSC Off and Traction Light Illuminated
Replaced the steering rack today due to the right side leak common to many of these RX's. Seems to have gone relatively well as far as that goes.
But now I have these issues:
1. VSC Off Light and the little traction icon are lit up.
2. Intermittently, an unnerving grinding sound from the front right wheel, accompanied by a pull to the right. This is not unlike the sound and feel of ABS engaging.
3. When the grinding sound is heard/felt, it is accompanied by a loss of engine power. The car does not stall, but it feels like the accelerator does nothing.
4. After pulling over for a few seconds, the engine power returns, and I am able to go along fine, VSC and Traction Icon still illuminated, until it happens again, about a mile down the road.
This must be peripherally related to the steering rack install. I'm thinking I must have smashed or dislocated a sensor or broken a wire at some point while I was removing / installing the rack.
Alignment is WAY off, as I have not taken it to get it lined up yet (Sunday).
Check Engine light is NOT on. And I read zero codes with my cheap OBDII scanner.
I'm appealing to the community to share their opines as to what it may be. It's my wife's car. You just might save a marriage.

Oh, my goodness! That sounds like the identical condition. ECU thinks I'm turning right (based on the quarter turn to the right required of the steering wheel to currently make the car go straight), yet is picking up no difference in angular velocity of the wheels between left and right. So the ECU is calling on the ABS to control my "skid". I didn't think to look at forums of other models, but I guess Toyota thinking is Toyota thinking.
I'll pull the ABS fuses so the shop can get it lined up and test drive it without ABS interference, then reset the steering wheel sensor when I have my new straight established.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! It saved me days and days of worry.
