my Lexus RX330 3.2005 MCU38 3311cc 171KW engine overheated till the red zone. Strangely the engine did not shut off to prevent this. Found the head gasket cylinder damaged. But why the engine did not shut off for engine security to prevent overheating at the maximum? anyone has an idea?
thank you

engines do not typically shut off when overheating. The safety is for the driver, not the engine, and if the engine stalled when going down the highway it would be unsafe. Some vehicles go into 'limp home' mode in which power is limited. Not sure the case of Lexus/Toyota though.

Thank you so much for that helpful explanation. Now I can understand why the engine did not stop when overheating till red zone.
Cylinder head gasket has been replaced, now the engine temperature is back to the normal but there are two orange lights on the dashboard: the check engine light et the VSC light. I do not Know if it is normal after replacing the cylinder head gasket to have these lights on the dashboard.
Does anyone experienced that situation?what I can do or check?

It is not normal to have the check engine light on because a repair was done. But if the check engine light was on before the repair, then it would still be on after the repair. The light must be reset with a tester to make it go off. In your situation, check that you have all the vacuum hoses plugged in. Sometimes a hose gets overlooked. Check electrical connectors have all been plugged in.
The car is built with OBD II, which stands for On Board Diagnostics version 2. There is a connector under the dash on the left side next to the fuse panel. If you know some one that has an OBD code reader, connect it to your car and find out what the check engine codes are. Then you will know what to look for. An automobile repair shop will have OBD readers, but they will probably charge you money you do it. OBD code readers can turn off the check engine light.
OBD code readers are not real big. They are approximately the size of a cell phone but thick, maybe like 3 or 4 cell phones stacked together.
