Default would a P215/50R17 tire mount on stock 17" rims?

Someone is selling anew P215/50R17 locally for really cheap. I would like to use this as my spare tire mounted underneath the vehicle. The current one is pretty rotted out and I will be replacing all of my tires anyways. I usually do not rotate this tire. Would I be able to mount this size tire to the stock rims and use it as a spare?

Thanks

Not a good idea. That cheap tire is a smaller tire by approximately 10%. It would fit on the rim. While you don't intend to use it on a regular basis, you will use it in an emergency situation. Because it is a skinnier tire, the load per square inch on the tread (the foot print) will be greater. This translates to the tire will break free earlier than the stock size tire would under hard breaking or slippery situations.

If you don't want to spend the money on a new, properly sized tire, go to a used tire place and get the proper size.
