What is this noise?

And I’m going to get a second opinion Monday at a different shop. The one down the street. This time I went to another close by shop but it’s. It’s not the one I normally go to. And if it is a motor mount I think it might be time to go to a different rx due to such high part costs!

We just had this exact issue on our RX350. It was a bad motor mount which allowed the exhaust to flex. We only heard it when the engine was cold. Shop ended up replacing motor mount and exhaust gasket. Problem solved.
I hope this helps.
one note - our shop claimed they could not hear anything wrong initially. We left it overnight when temps dropped, shop guy called next morning and told us they “ got her to talk today “... the repair happened and all was well.

Agree it could be timing chain rattle related, also 2GR engines from that era are known for issues with noises from camshaft gear. Does it sound like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMp7LELtNb4

So does that mean there is a bad timing chain etc or a possible bad camshaft gear?

I hate the sounds of this; but I was just doing a search on google and came across a old thread about this same issue I’m experiencing; with the same sound and it appears no matter what happens I could be looking at either a very very expensive repair bill of such we don’t have the money for I’m talking in the thousands of dollars as it sounds like I could have a bad camshaft gear which means say goodbye to this rx; trade in time again; or it could be a stretched timing chain, bad tensioners for the chain and otherwise either of which is very bad news. I hope it’s not the camshaft gear as that means complete engine teardown! Not to mention big big $$$$$$ which could equal the entire current value of the rx on the market at which point say bye bye

Ours sounded like a diesel, it was a concerning sound. Total cost for motor mount & exhaust gasket was about $400 at our mechanic.
Not sure on what mount, I will see if we can find the paperwork and see if it states which mount. Our mileage was 135,000 when this happened about a month or so ago.

Rubber inside mine was broke almost all the way and barely hanging on when I noticed it a couple years ago.
PS- This is on my RX330 but I don't have a pic for RX350.

Thanks everyone I’m gonna have the mounts checked tomorrow and see where things stand.

I just hope it doesn’t turn out to be something else major instead like the chain or cam gear

I’m convinced at this point this rx is doomed for a early “exit” from driving duty as things keep happening to my rx. This most likely won’t be a high mileage rx; I’d consider it a miracle if it makes it to 200,000 without the thing “blowing up” on me. And that’s if I keep it and manage to make it that far.
