Building a center console arm rest
One thing I feel that my 08 RX350 is lacking is some form of center arm rest for the passenger. The little sticks that fold down are pretty useless, being a bit too low to actually rest on. I am considering building a wooden structure that would slot down into the sliding console opening, resting on top of it. The wood will get covered with headliner foam, then a matching leather or vinyl. (I've build things like this before so just assume it will look nice). I am just wondering if the sliding center console can handle the duty of being an arm rest support? If it was solidly mounted, I wouldn't hesitate, but I don't want a 'life your body to grab what you are sitting on" movement to break it.
Thoughts? Has anyone else done something like this?

I did that when I bought mine in 2007, still works great, and adds storage and 2 large cup holders. A little shoe glue sticks it on the lower center console, can still open and close from withing the box.
