I am not applying the glue to the metal (silver) part.

Thanks. I think it will still be hard to get a good connection between the two metal parts and would go with the method I used. What's your concern with doing it that way?

It seems that screwing in the shark fin antenna connector would be a more secure connection than friction mount, but then that is dependent on whether or not I can glue the broken base back.

Okay, I see your point. On the other hand, there is not much stress on that spade connector and it's doubtful it would fall off on it's own, IMHO.
