Metal vvti line replacement under recall
#16
I believe the part you want is 1577231030, I don't think they ever intended it to be the replacement, rather it is for a different model with the same engine to make room for turbo or super charging, or something like that. The Lexus recall replacement is another rubber hose and it seems like they did that over the above item so they do not have to remove the power steering pump when performing the service. Obviously I'm pretty late to the party, I have a pool of oil in my driveway and need to figure out if it was this one or the cooler line. Most likely my 106k car will not be getting the free upgrades.

Replace it before it blows, it's a known 2GR-FE issue. I did it a few days ago and it was a pain. I was not able to replace it without removing the two bolts for the PS pump, and I HIGHLY doubt you could get to it without doing so, at least on an AWD.

Great pix, Matt......as you all see, the gasket for the lower end where the oil flow goes into the oil line, makes it so much easier.....

When Lexus corrected the VVT-i hose, after April 2008 production, was the new design all metal? My '09 RX350 was manufactured in July 2008, so after the change was made, I believe.
I'm looking for reassurance that I don't need to worry about it or have it replaced! I don't see any evidence of rubber but I don't know what lurks below the visible area. I know there are all metal replacement parts but this is original, so I'm wondering if it's as good as the current replacement part or if it's somewhere in-between the one bursts and the best you can get.
Here are a couple of angles:
