Need RX owners opinion on rust underneath the car
Hello fellow RX owners,
I am looking to buy 2007 RX350 and need your opinion on rust since I have never dealt with rust before.
The vehicle we are buying has rust underneath but I am not sure if this is normal rust or should I walk away from this car?
The car is located in Illinois and we just moved to Colorado. Please let me know if this much rust is normal or not?
Thank you,
Stan

They do get snow up there.......It is in the rust belt as you know........I'd pass as well as I've never had a rusty vehicle living on the westcoast......

I'd say it's "normal" for that age and that area. Any paint bubbling on the body panels? There's rust and there's Rust.
Bad Rust is when see crusty pieces and peeling. Depends on the price of the car if you should walk away or not.

Rust can be a nightmare for DIY repairs so I generally won't touch a car that's too rusty that's just me.
It's such a pleasure to work on a rust free car,

i totally agree. I use to live in michigan and of course the road salt in the winter just ate cars apart if they werent eventually cleaned off imo i would stay away from something with too much rust underneath which means it could have come from any of the snow belts areas.

I never heard of fluid filming so I have to look that one up lol but down in FL many people would pass on that car or expect a deep discount but I can see in northern states that could be a good one maybe cuz I've seen some really nasty rust buckets much worse condition that have come down from up north.

The rust you see are surface rust. A good coat of WD40 periodically will stop the surface corrosion. Be mindful of engine worthiness rather than worrying about surface rust.

Rust or no rust, I'd deduct for the damage on the frame on the LR.....which is the 2nd pix......A body shop can repair that btw....

Mostly surface although some of it looks dark. I'm in illinois also but I definitely have less on mine. Why did you choose to look at one from here? Colorado uses sand instead of salt don't they? I can sell you mine if you want . I have been debating on moving to a newer one.

My car has never seen salt but has seen a lot of rain, so I took these pics to share.
PS- OP's car is not that bad IMO, just wondering if you bought it and if you got a good deal.

Unfortunately my 2014 RX is a rust bucket compared to this. Canadian winters really do a number on our cars... Lots of busted bolts and torch/penetrating oil use...
Give it a year here and the rust will already be worse than that. That undercarriage looks fantastic to me!
