before this i had a newer 2011 acura rdx which i loved as well. it was just a little 2.3 4 cylinder but one with a turbo and that turbo gave a nice kick in the pants so to speak. I wish i could have kept that one but had to give it up because the monthly payments were just way too high.

I had a cheap $5 Harbor Freight mechanic's stethoscope for a while until I got careless and stacked a bunk of stuff on it and broke it.
It looked cheaply made but for five dollars it actually works very well and would do the job on this to hear noises.

Failing water pumps will make a rattle that comes and goes like a failing tensioner. Look to see if you are weeping any water from the weep hole under the water pump main drive pulley. Lots of shady mechanics have told customers that their engine is going out and needs replacement for what is actually a normal wear item, the water pump.
