So far they have been excellent. Took only about 10 minutes to install them and the brightness really helps with my older eyes. Highly recommended. No idea yet how long they'll last.

hey Bob, did you remove the bulb covers when you put in the LEDs?

I'm not sure what you mean by "bulb covers". I know, however, that I didn't remove anything other than the old bulb and replace it with the new bulb as it came out of the box.

Bob

there’s a spool-shaped diffuser that limits the light output to the bottom only.

Didn't realize that removing the diffuser was possible. As I said, I just replaced the bulb. Curious if you do remove the diffuser, as to whether or not that makes a positive difference to the pattern for the backup light output.

Can anyone confirm that the bulbs referenced in this thread do actually improve the lighting when reversing? At our ages my wife and I are both having trouble seeing in our driveway when reversing. Thanks.

I can attest that the ones I purchased make a significant difference when backing up into a dark area or at night. The only time it doesn't seem to work as well (same as for incandescent bulbs) is when it's raining or the ground is exceptionally wet.

I just ordered a pair of LEDs from Amazon. If they don't improve the lighting when reversing I'll send them back. I did break 2 of the plastic things on the back of the panel so I need to go to the auto parts store to buy a pack of new ones. The placement of the reversing lights is not good. I think they would work if they were lower on the car or projected the light more toward the ground.

Well, the ones I ordered from Amazon were too long to fit so I'm sending them back and I ordered a different set that were reported to fit in another thread. Fingers crossed.

Mine improve the view in the back-up camera, but not so much out the rear window. I'd still love to figure out how to remove that spool-shaped diffuser that limits the light output to the bottom only, illuminating the ground only.
