Default Rear struts

The Rear of my 2007 Lexus RX350 kept making this annoying thumping sound going over bumps, first I Replaced the outer sway bar links, they were definitely Bad but did not resolve the noise, so I Replaced the inner sway bar bushings, they looked good but I'm already under my Vehicle so I Replaced them anyway, The part's were inexpensive, so I move on to the Struts, they were not leaking but the dust boots were disentigrating, the dealership wanted $1500 to replace them, wow right? So I went with the Monroe Quik Struts and no more rear end thumping sound, I suppose the Strut Tower and or bearing was Bad,im going to rebuild the OEM ones I took off with New Strut Tower bearing plates and KWB Strut Cartridges, not sure if Bilstien sells a Strut cartridge for my Lexus but I really like Bilstien, I'm going to reuse the OEM rear strut springs because they don't go bad imo
but anyway I saved over a $1,000 by doing it myself, took about 2 &1/2 hours

I am jealous, wish I can do what you did. But im not mechanic. My 2015 IS Fsport seems to exhibit exactly the same thing like you described at 45k, maybe its time to replace the struts also....lol

i was thinking of the same fix. i am getting that SLAM from the rear every time i hit a bump. original struts, they have to be totally shot.

will check out the monroe quickstruts

what part number did you end up using. there are two options on the monroe site for non-air suspension

I have gotten the struts for several different cars from them. However, last year when I did the struts on my hatch, I got wrong ones that were too strong. They hustled replacements to me without any hassles. No one is perfect.

I am about to get both rear struts replaced in my 2009 rx 350, for same reason. A weird clunking sound over bumps. My dust covers were shredded too. I am hoping this fixes my problem as well. The whole spring and strut come together as a unit my mechanic tells me. and its easier to do it as a set. Anything I should know ahead of time??
He is charging $800 for whole thing. He has a small shop so does not have much overhead. I dont have the time so hoping this is reasonable price for parts and labor.

I paid $300 for a set of Monroe quik struts and installed myself, I suppose $800 is fair for a repair shop,it depends on what area you live in and what brand of struts they are installing

Too much $$$ if using aftermarket. This is a 1 hour job per side taking sweet time.

Jimmy350 is being too nice lol- $800 is outrageous if using aftermarket.
Monroe's Quick Strut comes with all new parts- strut, spring, bellows, bumpers, etc and a good name brand too.
Shops I worked in back in the day we never used quck struts- they aways used the cheapest generic strut cartridges sourced from local auto part stores for waiting customers. We did the labor squeezing down the springs and instaling them- much more labor and profit dollars $$$ for a shop. Just fyi on the business model from the inside.

PS- really depends on what you are getting- if he is getting oem struts, bumper, bellows, etc price might ok- Lexus struts. Parts plus $100 per side max labor.
* An experience tech can hang a quick strut assembly on both sides in a shop with a lift in an hour. Add an extra generous hour for test drive and cleanup.
