May be starting a project.
Hi CL
I'm in the process of buying a '89 Camry All Trac, and i've been doing some research of things i could do and was left dry. But then I had a thought I could drop a 2nd gen RX350 4WD w/ the 2GR. I thought of this as the best solution because I have an MR2 I plan on doing a 2GR swap here in the future, so for parts/information it'll be easy on me.
my main question(s) is
How does the RX350 go into 4WD?
The Camry has a center lock diff, identical system to the Celica All Trac, which might conflict with the trans if it has a rear-diff locker.
Is the rear diff electronically controlled?
Some 4WD vehicles use the rear diff to lock it into 4WD. If thats the case, it wouldnt be the end of the world, but i'd prefer to keep the center lock.
Why would i use a RX350?
Mainly do to parts availability. They made a hell of a lot more of these than they did Camry all Trac parts. I'd be doing a full drivetrain swap minus the rear diff (hopefully) Id use most parts from the RX350 such as the dash, and infotainment for ease of use.
Thoughts?

I made this list for first gen Highlanders, but most of it also applies to the 2nd gen RX. You might find some useful info in here for your project.

Stock diff is an open diff that is fully mechanical. AWD is supposed to be a 50/50 split with a viscous coupling t-case, and I believe it because I can induce oversteer with suspension mods.
The diff - not a bad piece but definitely grab a LSD rear diff from a 1999-2000 RX300 as well. Be careful as I have been sent a few open diffs, so confirm with seller first. 17TU = limited slip, 17SU = open. You will need to remove the side flanges from the LSD and slide in your stock CVs (assuming you use the RX CVs).
