GF has a 07 RX v6 auto trans. It was replaced with a rebuilt unit 5 years ago, now showing the same problem.
Acceleration is fine, but when I decelerate from 40mph or more, it will clunk-jerk once or more. Then when I accelerate again, it clunk-jerks (as if it was slipping, then grabbed).
If I shift to manual operation, I've heard it called Sport Mode, and keep it in 3rd there is no problem. If I upshift to 4th it will occur. I think the same in 5th but too much traffic to really check that today.
This will not happen if the speed stays below 35-ish and/or it stays below 4th gear in Auto or Sport modes.
Just started happening last week. I'm guessing/hoping it's a solenoid issue, but I read the tranny has 13 solenoids, and how to pick one?!?!?!?!?!?
Thanks for your help!

This is a common complaint here, and I think it's "normal" for these cars, for the most part.
It's funny, sometimes I notice it a lot on my RX, and sometimes I never notice it.
*Of course it's not normal if the slamming into the lower gear is severe and is really slamming the car around.

Nothing even semi-normal about this. Each clunk-jerk shakes the whole car, and is strong enough I worry about breaking parts.
Took it out today to check higher speeds. Acceleration is fine, but on deceleration the problem starts about 38mph and continues clunking and jerking regardless of throttle position, until I shift to 3rd. It will not stop, hence it will not allow any speeds requiring 4th or 5th.

Sounds like the transmission.

Yes, it is the transmission. It has about 50k since a rebuilt unit was installed.
There is no slippage otherwise, this seems to me it's a solenoid issue - but I know very little about Toyota transmissions and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
