Hey everyone I just joined up here as I recently purchased a 2007 RX 350 it had a brand new motor installed in 2016 and has 140,000 miles on the body. An older couple owned it and seem to take good care of it so seem like a good deal.
this morning I went to pull out of my driveway after owning it for a week and it would not shift into reverse. I put it in Drive then back to reverse still nothing. I finally gave it a little bit of gas and it clumped into reverse and then clumped into drive and it drove pretty smooth afterwards and shifted like butter as usual. Has anyone experience something like this do I already need a new transmission? I just checked the fluid and there were signs of red left but it mostly seem to be on the blacker side so I’m wondering if that could be an issue too
When the engine is dropped on this car, the whole subframe comes down with the transmission. This means that the cable connecting the shift lever inside the car to the lever on the transmission itself is unbolted, and rebolted when sub frame put back. IIRC the cable is anchored on the transmission with a bracket that has 2 bolts, and one of these is difficult to get at.
So, it is possible this bracket on the trans is loose, or the cable needs adjusting slightly. Giving the engine gas may have wiggled it, not sure about that. I will see if I can dig up a pic:

I would definitely do an ATF fluid drain and fill, that's what I did on my 2007 rx350, I wasn't having any transmission issues but the fluid was dark, I will do another ATF fluid drain and fill in the spring,I have to wonder if the reason for the new engine is because of the engine Oil cooler lines (rubber)failed, Lost All engine Oil and locked up the engine,I installed the updated OEM Toyota Oil cooler lines (All metal) because the old one was leaking engine Oil
