Default Power Steering Pump and TPMS

My mechanic said I needed a new power steering pump on my 08 Rx 350. The lower power steering hose appeared to be leaking where its clamped and connected to the reservoir. I asked him to degrease that entire section. Afterwards I realized that it could have just been a loose clamp. I put a new clamp and slid the old clamp down. So far no more leakage. Just beware when people tell you that you need a new pump. Also, I believe the leakage that was found on the pump itself was oil from the timing cover seal and not the reddish ATF.

As I drove off my TPMS light kept blinking. I checked all the tires and they were all at 34 psi including the spare. I took it to a tire shop and he said 1 TPMS wasnt reading and had no battery. After he installed a new one, he said he attempted to reset it with his OBD 2 and the light didnt reset. I have an OBD 2 at home and also didnt reset. I hit the reset button underneath the dash, and all it did was blink 3 times, but it remains on. Anybody knows what I should do. Did he install an incorrect sensor? So before the new sensor it would keep blinking. Now this time it no longer blinks, but the TPMS just remains contstantly on. Pretty wierd.

After programming the TPMS sensor ID's into the ECU without turning the key off you need to go around the vehicle and re-scan each sensor again. That works 90 percent of the time. Where in Cali are you. If your in LA PM me your number.

Thanks. I live about 1 hour from LA, but I will pass this on to my tire shop. Heading back there Monday.

A blinking tpms light usually means that one of the wheel sensors is no longer being detected by the tpms ecu. Translation - you probably have a wheel sensor whose battery has died. the batteries will only last 10 years or so. I'm sure the tire shop will check for that.

Sometimes during the relearn the other sensors start dying out. Pretty sure the other advice I gave you will fix your problem as long as your sensors still respond. If you decide to take a trip to Monterey Park let me know.

You are right, I did misinterpret your post. Totally glossed over the one wheel sensor being replaced.

The wheel sensors have an ID code built into them that gets transmitted to the tpms ecu. When you replace a wheel sensor, the new sensor has to be registered with the ecu. This way the tpms ecu only looks at the sensors in your car and not the ones in the car parked next to you. OBD has nothing to do with this process. You must use the Toyota TechStream for this. So in my other post I did manage to get something right - good tire shop can register the wheel sensor. Otherwise you will need to go to a toyota or Lexus dealer.

So it appears to have been a faulty new sensor. I went back to tire shop and they removed the new sensor and put another new one. They guys had a regular Tpms Obd tool. It wasn't anything fancy. Once he programmed them the light reset and went away.
