Removal Door Handle Protective Sticker Glue
Hello,
I bought this Gem of a RX350 10/2021 from Houston Lexus Dealer.
This ride is in great shape and maintenance.
I have one Real Big Bummer and hope someone here can help me with THE Answer.
The doors have residue from protective stickers on each door handle area behind the handle on the door.
I can only guess this was somebody's idea of the ting to do to protect the door paint from scratches such s Fingernails when opening the doors.
I am sure that the Lexus Dealer did all they could to remove the sticker glue, but it is on the doors and looks terrible.
Surely the Body Shop tried buffing it with all types of polish and such.
I have tried the following with no improvement:
WD 40
Goof Off
3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover
I went to an Auto Wrap company, and they said they use Goof Off.
There are many Goof Off products, I got "Household"
I always assumed Goof Off was very strong chemicals but ingredients are listed as Cooking Oil and Baking Soda.
I recently read that Dryer Sheets are good for removing bugs, polishing headlight enclosures and Car Paint.
I purchased a Sticker Remover Wheel to out on a drill but I have been scared it will damage the paint if / when the old adhesive removes.
I'd really like to just wipe it with the correct chemical but I am not sure what would be the ONE to get this taken care of.
Varsol comes to mind, (where in the Word to get that anymore!)
Gasoline my Friend suggested.
Methyl ethyl ketone Maybe the One but outlawed?
CRC OD Electrical Contact Cleaner I have but not yet tried? (CRC makes many formulas)
Acetone / Nail Polish Remover?
I'm hoping someone knows the answer and not a bunch of guesses as I can do that.
Thanks

That is bad. It looks like the adhesive is now dried and crystalized. With the chemicals you have already tried, it should have come off. I think you should talk to a body shop. This looks like re-painting will be needed after the glue has been ground off.

It appears that whatever was put in there ate the clear coat and paint. I hope not, however based on several things you have tried to remove it, it is still there. Try the paint shop, they will confirm for you. Good luck.

That sucks. I have the same situation going on with the hood of my Highlander. Previous owner got a protective film put on and that junk is now just a big ooze on the hood. Even a heat gun, Goof Off and Goo Gone wouldn't get it off

They were in a hurry, I am not.
I am waiting for weather to clear / warm up a bit. I will document the process and Post results soon.

Actually, took a lot of thinking and research to know where to apply the ELBOW!
A couple folks here lended some light. I am long time car guy of many disciplines, primarily engine building and racing cars/bikes.
My profession is Mechanical Design Engineer with long time love and lust for cool cars.
I've encountered some weird problems in the past but this had my head shaking and others I know as well. LEXUS Dealership guys were hopeless as well and that 3M Cud was put on by them at That Dealership!
