Default Lower control arms

Well the body shop put my rx on one of their lifts as I’m getting a thud like sound especially at highway speeds. Turns out my front lower control arms are completely “toasted”. Shop down the street from me sent me a estimate of 1,088.32 but again that’s just a estimate. I mean geeez! What next!!!! Water pump? Thermostst?

They bill for a lot of hours for that job but it isn’t that hard to do . I’m not a mechanic and just did the passenger side in 3 hours . You can do it !

I don’t have the tools for the job or the money for the tools. Or the space to do it

Not too hard and not many tools required, I just did my passenger side today and will likely do the driver's side tomorrow, I also did both on my 2002 Highlander a few months back (same procedure).

Get a pr of A-arms & shop around for a shop to install them & of course have a 4-way alignment done afterwords......There are shops that'll do it, just got to shop around. You'll find some shops slow btw.

It really isn't too difficult.

The three mounts have 4 bolts each I believe. Just loosen em all up ( or take the nuts off but leave the one top nut attached). Jack the motor itself up and loosen and replace control arm.

It's intimidating because of the quotes, and the mentioning of having to 'remove engine' to replace a control arm. But the actual job is pretty easy. I recommend loosening all 3 mounts. If you're worried the whole doing driver side leave passenger side mount nuts loose but attached and vice versa. But it's not going anywhere. The sway bar, rack n pinion, and torque mount and some other mount underneath all keep it in line.

Don't do 1100 for control arms that will take a shop 2 hours TOPS.
