Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S: 245/65R17 fit?
Hi, I'm looking to buy these tires for my stock 17" wheels.
The Cooper Tire specs say this width tire needs a wheel with a min width of 7".
From what I've learned is the stock 17 wheel is 6" wide.
Will the wheel width be an issue? Also has anyone run a similar tire size without rubbing on the rear strut(s)?
Thanks for your time to answer.
Cheers

I have 245/50 on mine with 18x8” newer Lexus rims. No rubbing at full lock. Stock 17” are 6.5” I wouldn’t want to run a 245 on these.
Newer (2008+) Highlander 17” rims are 7.5” wide and won’t roll the sidewall so badly unlike our awful skinny stock rims. You probably won’t be rubbing the rear struts with that size but it’ll be very close. I ran 235/55R19 from my ‘14 RX as a test, it was pretty close but cleared. That’s 0.3” less diameter than 245/65R17. Some have gotten away with the 245/65 but I suppose how tight the gap is depends on the tire at that point.
You can always get the 2008-2013 Highlander rear struts and 2008-2009 Highlander front struts if you want taller perches

That sucks! The HL 19s have made others complain about rubbing as well on the calipers. Did yours rub on the caliper or strut? I know they don’t have a lot of clearance with the stock calipers, shouldn’t be an issue for me because I have the newer gen calipers front and rear on my car.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any info on how to identify which one you have. You would have to use an outside caliper such as in this link:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-12-1-4-in-Outside-Caliper-452-12/202545170
Measuring on the outside would indicate maybe a quarter inch more than the inside actually is.

Lexus had 2 different 17 inch rims that were used from 1999 to 2009 on the RX300, RX330 and RX350. One was 6.5 inches wide and the other was 7.0 inches wide.

It came on the base & mid-range models (non-Nav). It's a 17x6.5.
The 18" wheel options were all 18x7 (hybrid as well), with *possibly* an exception on the Thundercloud/Pebble beach 18" wheels.

Turns out this is incorrect. The web site I use has an error. While there were 2 17" rims, they are both 6.5 inches wide. The difference between the 2 is the finish. I used Hollander to verify that both rims are 16.5.

Reread what I wrote and the pics you posted. 17" was a 6 spoke only, and ran the whole production series regardless of model (Hybrid or not).
Hybrid has one 18" design.
The others were variants of an 18" wheel, 5 spoke, 7 spoke, 10 spoke (Pebble beach), and a very limited, 5 spoke (thundercloud). In painted or chrome finishes.
